Hazel Waterhouse

Born: May 31st, 1923

Passed on: February 13th, 2015

Hazel was an athlete. In both England and America, she played singles and doubles tennis at an amateur level. I remember that she enjoyed the competitive aspect of the game and told me that she loved to think up strategies for outmaneuvering her opponents. Hazel was a hard worker. After earning a Master’s Degree in America, Hazel ran an office that found jobs suitable for elderly workers. Hazel also created a hospice organization to help take care of the elderly who were terminally ill. Hazel was a loving wife and mother. She was attentive and supportive to my father, who worked many long hours in teaching and medical research. As a mother, she was warm and kind, and taught me how to serve a good, strong, cup of English tea. I remember how much fun it was to help her make marmalade when I was young. I helped her cut up the oranges and lemons and then it was my job to tell when the marmalade was finished cooking. If the spoonful of jam on the saucer wrinkled when I pushed gently on the edge, then it was time to enjoy the sweet treat on some warm fresh toast. It was delicious! Hazel was a woman of strong faith. She was an example for me during her lifetime, and I know that God has welcomed her into her new home with him. I am grateful that Hazel was my mother and I will miss her deeply. Stella
