  "Of the quite rare meetings with Hazel, the ones best remembered were in 1972 in Chicago and in about 1987 in London. On the latter occasion I was learning a Britten Suite and she patiently listened to it all through, saying how she liked the pizz movement coz it reminded her of 1950's jazz bands (quite perceptive, I thought at the time). Remember too her resonant voice and gentle and engaging way with us when we were small. Fabulous she lived to such a wonderful age. "
